My life has changed in a bunch of unexpected ways.
How could I have known that I would meet my future husband at the tender age of eighteen? Who could have predicted that I would find myself in Champaign, Illinois of all places? And if you had told me that I would become a full-time professional blogger instead of a research psychologist, I would have laughed right in your face.
Initially, Jon and I planned on staying in Champaign for only the duration of law school, which is three years. We were supposed to go to Chicago when he graduated so Jon could be Mr. Lawyer.
Then Little Coffee Fox totally changed our lives.
In his last semester of law school, we decided to stay in Champaign for a fourth year so we could figure out what to do next. We both work on this site together, and that gives us the unique ability to move anywhere we want. As long as there is an internet connection, we can run the site. But this presents a problem — the world is a very, very big place. How on earth do you decide where to settle down?
There are a million places we would love to live, but we found ourselves paralyzed by this enormous decision. The last year has been spent trying to crack this tough puzzle.
Well, we’ve given it a great deal of thought, and we finally have a solution.
We are buying a house here in Champaign!
We are getting out of the renting game and put in an offer on a super cute home here in town. And guess what? The offer was accepted!!
I have been dying to tell you for ages, but I wanted to wait until things were more sure. Thankfully, we are at a point that I think it’s safe to share this exciting news.
We decided that instead of trying to pick one place in the big wide world to settle down, we would go ahead and make ourselves a home base and travel to all those amazing destinations. The cost of living here is very affordable and we are only a few hours from a major international airport, so it all fit perfectly.
Will we stay in Champaign forever? I don’t plan on it, but my plans don’t always go the way I expect. For now, we aren’t worried about it. We’re excited to begin this chapter of our lives together and really make this place our own.
To gear up for the move in June, we are rolling up our sleeves and getting some serious decluttering done. There’s nothing like an impending move to make you realize how much junk you have, and neither Jon nor I are too thrilled about the idea of hauling it all up and down stairs.
Thankfully, fate has smiled upon us by perfectly timing the 100% free Decluttering Your Scariest Space Challenge with Dana K. White!
